Our Nursery is a very small facility, with its limited capacity, priority is given to teachers' children and siblings of our pre-k and elementary students. When there is space available, we welcome new families. Admissions decisions are made based on seeking a balance of ages, genders, and scheduling needs. We host two Nursery open houses per year, in spring and fall. To receive an e-mail invite to our next open house, contact info@soulardschool.org.
We offer regular tours of our pre-k and elementary campus. Tours include a discussion of the school's philosophy and other aspects of our approach that can be helpful to prospective Nursery families.
More about our Nursery
At The Soulard School Nursery we learn though play. We sing, dance, create, learn, play, and most of all we enjoy our time with each other. The classroom design includes areas for sensory development, art, manipulatives, dramatic play, building, and literature. The themes and topics that we create as the curriculum for our classroom are based on the interests and developmental needs of the children. A few of our studies have focused on our bodies, shapes, colors, animals, and author studies including Eric Carle, Leo Lionni.
The Nursery is divided into two rooms. Our younger classroom is designed for infants up to 18 months. These children will transition into the Toddler classroom at age one until they reach 3 years. To benefit all children, the older children are very involved in assisting the younger children (putting on shoes, clearing the table, picking up toys, etc.). The younger children benefit from this assistance while the older children learn responsibility and practical life skills.
We introduce meal times as a calm and enjoyable part of our day. The children bring their own food from home and take the responsibility to serve themselves, as well as, clear their spots when they are done.
Parent Communication
Daily communication, highlights of the day, messages, wish list items, and napping times are posted on a board as you enter the Nursery. This can be helpful to begin discussions with your child about his or her day and incorporate school learning into the home environment. Calendar information will be posted on the bulletin board, as well as, bi-weekly lesson plans, laundry schedule, the all-school calendar, and student schedules.
The Nursery Newsletter will be emailed at the end of every week including important notes and our weekly highlights and pictures. Infant Daily Sheets are sent home at the end of every day with eating, sleeping, and diapering information about your baby’s day.
Conferences
Toddler students will receive developmental reports at the end of both fall and spring semesters. During the beginning of December parents will have the opportunity to conference with teachers about their child’s current development.
