Birthday Books

The Soulard School celebrates the individuality of each child, and for birthdays we choose to recognize each child in a unique way. In lieu of birthday treats, students are asked to choose a Birthday Book to donate to the school that reflects his/her personality or interests.

When choosing a Birthday Book, we ask that books related to pop culture not be shared at school. Here is a guiding thought for what we mean by this: If a book was a book first and later became a movie, toy, or video game, it is likely to be appropriate for The Soulard School. If a book was a movie, toy, or video game first and later became a book, it is not likely to be appropriate.

Each child receives a bookplate to fill out and decorate, and books are shared within the classroom on his/her birthday. Once a month, all of the birthdays in the school are recognized in an assembly where students may present their books to the school and share why they chose them. August birthdays will be celebrated in September, and June and July birthdays will be celebrated in May (see the assembly schedule listed below). Families are invited to attend.
